GEORGE SOPER R.E. 1870 - 1942

George Soper is renowned for his watercolours ,etchings and woodcuts of heavy horses, farm labourers and rural scenes in the early 1900's. He portrays rural life in all it's harshness of the era. His eye for detail is quite staggering, his etchings are considered some of the finest of his time. He studied etching under Sir Frank Short in 1905, and was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Acedemy. He was also a full member of the Royal Engravers.
